The Benefits of Resiliency in Your Personal and Business Life

Written by: Roberta M. Fisher, Gadd Business Consultants, LLC

Resiliency is not something everyone has, but, is achievable in their personal and professional life.  It’s not easy, nothing that is good ever comes easy.  You need to struggle through all kinds of obstacles in life to stay resilient.

To achieve the necessary mindset to become and stay resilient, you must possess the five characteristics below.

  1. The world doesn’t revolve around you

No one is perfect, so accept it.  When you do, you are no longer stressing on your faults but looking on ways to improve yourself, relationships and to work on becoming more resilient.

It does not matter what path you are on or where you are in your life, just focus on what and how to improve yourself as a person, friend or colleague.

  1. What really matters to you

Sort out your thoughts and actions by what really matters to you.  Real success does not come from awards, achievements or praise, it is based on who you have become along life’s journey.

  1. Stop the blame game

“Man up” to sustain your resiliency, do not look to see who or what circumstance you can blame.  Live life and follow your set of values, this will provide you with a new and better set of problems to face, instead of who to blame when things go wrong, difficult or not your way.

  1. Accept change

Do not let change stand in your way.  Let the feeling of entitlement go to the way side, it makes for a weaker and less dependable person to rely on.  Work through the learning period, awkwardness and be receptive to the risk of accepting the change.

  1. Make a permanent state of mind

Everyone knows the saying “Smile, be happy”, but, happiness that is driven by someone, something or an action that is provided to you, doesn’t last for long.  It is better to have choices when it is about how to feel, think and your behavior, it is better to have attitudes like joy that keeps in line with your values and what you believe in.  A solid, rooted attitude is better than a moment of feeling happy that is based on others.
